Thatt's right! What you see is what it is. An electric bass with an onboard tube preamp is what it is, and it kicks. The warmth, dynamic, transparency, and sheer power of this bass puts it in a class by itself.
I got this idea while recording in the studio one day. My bass was plugged into a very expensive tube preamp, and I thought, why not build those tubes right into the bass. I mean put the tubes right up next to the pick up. That way you don't lose any sound and you skip the normal transistor preamp altogether. Plus, you have your sound with you regardless of what kind of amp or mixer you plug into.
To quote the famous words of JFK: "Some people see things as they are and ask why, some people see things as they can be and ask why not!" I asked.....Why not? I then took the idea to Holge at Sandberg Basses in Braunschweig, Germany, and guess what he said?
Why not?
So here it is the Tube Machine, the first electric bass with a built in tube preamp that I know of.
It's not a joke, this bass sounds fat and clear. there's none of the typical brittle high end like on most transistor basses. The sound is wet.
The original model in the foto is with an extra long scale, and is tuned B-E-A-D. This is a bass bass. It is also available with a normal scale 4 string, 5,string and 6 string.
Another good thing about the bass: It's affordable!

See ya,
Reggie:-)
